Google Inc. has announced that it will be teaming up with some of the publishers to make old magazines available online. The new offering allows users to browse magazine covers and look into individual issues of them, available exactly the same way as they first appeared in print, including all the advertisements!

This move is yet another step towards their goal of organizing the world’s information. The magazines that have been scanned and digitized, are presented alongside Book Search results. Some of the notable publications scanned include
- Maximum PC
- Popular Science
- Men’s Health
- New York Magazine
As part of the deal, the publishers (of the mags) get links leading users back to the publication’s homepage.
We’ve already heard about the cost cutting methods deployed by Google, like curbs on the otherwise lavish holiday parties and efforts to boost revenue by an increase in the number of ads shown on the search results page.
Now it seem Google is cutting out on gifts to it’s top performing AdSense publishers this Christmas.
“..we feel that gift-giving is not the most appropriate gesture this year given the current global economic climate. I know you may be disappointed, but I hope you can understand our efforts to be fiscally responsible in these times. ”
