      Hi Dj,
      Thanks for information,
How can i check my dataone usage

    4. thinkdj says:

      @vinu..
I guess the procedures will be the same. Get an application form from the BSNL office..

      @pushkal..
With Moderate surfing for 5-6 hrs/day, you could stick on to your limit. Be sure no other programs are eating up your bandwidth.. Spywares, malware and processes running in the background could account towards unwanted data transfer .. Install a good firewall and keep your system clean of spyware.. Also, limit high bandwidth-consuming services like watching a lot of YouTube videos or Video chatting .. they can eat up a lot of bandwidth.. If you are cautious enough, you could adhere with your data limit.

      @manju
that is real bad news.. Were you provided with a customer support / engineer’s number? Contact them and report it asap and tell that you had specified Home 500.
You could also use Home250 for a month and request for a change of scheme from next month [which should be done now]

    7. pushkal says:

some body tells me only surfing can consume 1.5 gb permonth if i use broadband daily 5 to 6 hours

    8. vinu says:

      hi pushkal…
it will cost u rupees 500 as monthly rentals.. and for the modem u either have to take any one of the modems are which are there on stock for sale.. they are(TYPE1 MODEM-1200/-,TYPE2 MODEM-1600/-,TYPE3 MODEM-1800/-).But if u r taking the modem on rent then ur rent for type 1 modem will be 60/- rupees monthly.. so ur monthly charges in tht case will be 560/-.. u will have to pay an initial deposit of 500/-(refundable).also 100/- rupees as registratio fees and 250 rupees as installation charges… as given in site’s installation and other charges link.

    9. vinu says:

      hi..
please let me know about the applying procedures at kerala state, ernakulam district.. (SRM ROAD EXCHANGE)Please do let me know…

    10. vinu says:

      hi…
      thanks for the details provided..

    11. PUSHKAL says:

hi every body just tell me the initial charges for installation, i have my own adsl modem

    12. thinkdj says:

@vinu and pushkal.. there wont be any notable degradation in speed. You’ll get between 1-2 Mbps

      For installation charges, please refer
      INITIAL AND OTHER CHARGES

    13. PUSHKAL says:

HELLO THANKS FOR GIVEING ME NEW EXPERIENCE and also tell me that how far i m 1.5 km from exchange

    14. vinu says:

      hi ….
heard bout the new 500c plan… want to know how to get started with it.. what wil be my initial expenses during the time of installation.. just do let me know the details.. and how is it working now. my exchange is around half a kilometer from my home and so what will be my downloading as well as working speed..>?

      hoping for a reply…

    15. thinkdj says:

      Hi Pushkal,
It’s 2Mbps. But if your house is very far from the exchange, the max speed cannot be attained due to drawbacks of ADSL technology. But you’ll get a minimum of 256 kbps.. So, you’ll get 256kbps – 2Mbps depending on feasibility

    16. PUSHKAL says:

some body tell me the bsnl broadband in home 500 c plan the actual speed of connection that’s 256 kbps or 2 mbps

    17. Shaheen says:

      2am to 8am

    18. pushkal says:

hey some body tell me free usage hous in home 500c plan and i can’t understand 0200-0800 hrs

    19. Shaheen says:

here r the answers to the best of my knowledge

      a.no change in speed
      b.no xtra security deposit required
c.when u r in 500C, u don’t need to pay the 300rs monthly rental for the landline. And u will get 175 calls, mind tat not 175rs worth calls. Then u hav ur tariff of oneindia plan.

Also ur monthly download limit in 8am to 2am will be 1.5GB instead of 2GB

And chk whether the 5000 rs advance payment may cause any prob.

    20. Raj says:

      Hi,

As of now, i am in General plan@300pm{200 free calls per month plan} landline connection and also having a broad band connection rs.500pm (Annual – RS.5000 consolidated payment plan) and thought of moving to this newly introduced HOME 500C plan…

Before changing in to this plan, i have some worries in mind
      a. Eventhough both the plan Broadband speed is 256kbs to 2Mbps, Whether the broadband speed will be reduced ?
      b. Any security deposit has to be paid for plan change from general to this HOME 500C.
      c. Based on the 500C plan, i can able to see rent will not be collection for landline…. other than this advantage is there is any other benefits?
      d. In the given website, we can able to change the tariff plan through internet itself and don’t need to go to the bsnl office for changing this….

Before opting to this plan, thought of getting you guys valuable advice..

      advance thanks for your replies,
      Raj

    22. Abdur Raoof M says:

dj and Shaheen, Thanks a lot for clarifying me.

    23. Shaheen says:

I used to check my data usage at this site

      http://p3hosting.bsnl.in:9080/BroadBandCustomerPortal/

login and click consolidated usage, in that u can see how much u transferred and the charge. From the charge shown 1200 will be discounted for 500C customers. For 500C+ calculate urself!!!

Sometimes their server will be down. At that moment you cann’t. But u may use third party software like bitmeter whihc is a freeware to know ur bandwidth usage realtime.

Yahoo voice chat will take approximately 90Kbps bandwidth means 1MB for 91 seconds. And under 500c+ you have 2500MB during 8am to 2am nxt day. If u don’t have much usage take 500C plan. thats profitable or take home 500 with extra telephone tariff plan like ’special plan’. This home500C+ is not gud for people making around 450 calls and less STD.

With 500c u will get 175 calls free instead of 50 in 500c+.

Moreover u have unlimited transfer during 2am to 8am.

    24. thinkdj says:

      @ Shaheen.. Thanks dude .. :)

      @Abdur
Everything you do once you are logged on constitutes towards usage. Voice Chat is no exception. However, it is not calculated as such and there is no separate charge for it either.
On a rough estimate, it would take, say, 3 MB for 10 mins of voice chat.
[ I am not that sure, but that is a good approximation; Somebody clarify if I'm wrong ]
So, the data transfer will be added towards account usage.

Regarding the data usage check, many BSNL users are in a fix (atleast the ones whose exchanges upgraded the hardware). We were give a Portal username and p/w. (http://data.basnl.com) When we log onto the portal, there exists a blank frame and nothing more.

    25. Abdur Raoof M says:

      Hi,
I have a net connection with plan 500 C+. I used to do voice chatting with my cousin in Dubai. Will I be charged for voice chatting (via yahoo messenger). If so, how is it calculated?

One more thing to clarify. How can I find information about how much I have downloaded?

      Thanks in advance

      Regards
      Abdur Raoof M

    26. Shaheen says:

      ur call tariff remains same.

    27. DV Vidyasagar says:

In continuation to my earlier question as I have intimated that I am in basic one india plan by paying Rs.180/- fixed monthly charages.

As basic one india plan@Rs.180 is good to make a lot of STD(outside state) calles thru landline, being opted now the plan Combo 500C does my tariff remains same. I mean what are my STD charges?

      regards
      dittakavi venkata vidyasagar

    28. thinkdj says:

Yes, you are right.. It looks like your plan has not been upgraded.
If you had the 1800 plan, the speed must have been in the 1 Mbps range.

    29. ash says:

      hi dj,
      thanx for d reply.
      i tested my bandwidth
      it comes between 220 to 330 kb/s
does it mean mine is still not upgraded?
home 1800 512 to 2mbps.so it means minimum bandwidth for mine will be 512 kb/s
      n not anything below it.right?
      thanx again for ur help.
      tc bye

    30. thinkdj says:

      @deepthi
No.. security deposit is one time payment

      @ash
My friend faced a similar problem.. He used the net like the new plan had been implemented but when the bill came, it was a staggering 18,000 Rs !!!! Anyways, he had records that he had asked for a plan change request and didn’t have to pay it.

1800 Plan goes upto 2 Mbps.. try the test at BSNL’s Calcutta site
      http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/bandwidthmeter/initialmeter.php
      It gives a better result.
If your result is 1.x Mbps, your scheme has been upgraded and you have nothing to worry about.

    31. ash says:

      hi,
i gave d application for shifting scheme from 900 unlimited to 1800 home scheme last month.they said new scheme wld be activated from jan1.but from jan1 i dont find any difference in my download speed.i checked my bandwidth speed.it says 231kb/s.but according to 1800 rs scheme my minimum bandwidth should be 512 kb/s.does it mean am still in my old scheme.because am now downloading only after 2am fearing a mammoth bill.i called bsnl office.they have no clue as usual.they give me customer care no.but it is never answered.can any 1 help?

    32. deepthi says:

      hi guys
currently i am in 500c plan ..now i would like to change my plan to 500c+ …should i pay the the security deposit for this again….

    33. Shaheen says:

      sagar,here r the answrs

      b)yes, u can opt.

      c)no extra monthly charges

d)Rs.250/- in case of modem from bsnl

basic one india plan@Rs.180 is gud only for people who have to make a lot of std(outside state) calles thru landline.

    34. dvvidyasagar says:

      a) Right now I am in basic one india plan by paying Rs.180/- fixed monthly charages.

      b) Can I opt for homor plan Combo 500C?

      c) If yes, what are the fixed monthly charges other than Rs.500/- p.m?

      d) How much total I have to pay the installation charges?
      regards
      dittakavi venkata vidyasagar.

    35. thinkdj says:

      Hi Shaheen..
There is Total transfer ( night unlimited + normal ) and consolidated, which is the payable data transfer.

Can you access your account now ? In my area, they upgraded the hardware in the exchange for IPtv and gave me a new login data.bsnl.in.. Where do you access it from ? I cannot access mine for about a month now ..

    36. Shaheen says:

I mean, there is an option showing consolidated charge, na?
it shows current month total data transfer and amount. In that, I have the doubt on the amount shown. My plan is 500C, so as my free limit is 1.5GB, how much this 1.5GB is equivalent to. Or in other words, for me how much amount shown will constitute my free usage of 1.5GB?

      hope u got it now

      muhammed_shaheen97@yahoo.co.in
      shaheen97@gmail.com

    37. thinkdj says:

“how much my consolidated charge constitutes of my free usage” what do you mean by that shaheen ?

    38. Shaheen says:

my house is around 4 kms from the exchange and i am getting more than 2Mbps speed. When i checked at various speed test sites, it scored 2.7 Mbps download speed. I would like to know how much my consolidated charge constitutes of my free usage?

    39. thinkdj says:

It means you get 1 email ID [loginname@bsnl.in or something like that] that has a 5 MB mailbox..
You wont be using that anyway :D

    40. Murthy says:

      What does thismean?

      Free E-mail IDs/Space (Per E-mail ID)
      1/5 MB

    41. thinkdj says:

      Jnanesh, I beg to differ..

ISPs advertise in Mbps and Kbps .. which stands for Megabits/s and Kilobits/s as they refer to the no of BITS transmitted/s through a communication channel..
But when it comes to the OS level, the standard is in MegaBytes/s or KiloBytes/s ( note the diff b/w “kbps & KB/s” and “Mbps and MB/s” )
They are entirely different :) While ISPs advertise in baud rate (bits/s) we use Bytes/s ( divide the bitrate by a factor of 8 as 8 bits make up a byte )

      and so, 180 KB/s = 180*1024 Bytes/s = 180*1024*8 bits/s and hence > 1.4 Mbps

PS : I suck at math anyways ;)

    42. Jnanesh says:

Think Dj, u need to be good in Maths first.

      180 KB/s is not > 1.4 Mbps.

It should be 0.18 Mbps :-)

    43. thinkdj says:

      @Murali ..
Good luck .. 2Kms is no problem at all ..I think U’ll get full 2Mbps speeds..
My house is approx 2 Kms from the exchange .. My download speeds usually reaches 180-250 KB/s ( > 1.4 Mbps ) for torrents and accelerated downloads and 50-80 KB/s for normal unaccelerated downloads

    44. Murali says:

Thinkdj: Thanks, for the clarification. My house being less than 2 km, hope will be getting atleast 512kbps

    45. thinkdj says:

      hey bejoy,
They have mentioned nothin like that on the website.
check out BSNL Broadband – HOME Combo PLANS (w.e.f. 01.11.2007)
I see no reason why they’d make it exclusively for new customers ..

    46. Bejoy says:

hello guys, i approched the bsnl and asked for plan change to 500 C. but they guys refused to do so, and said it was only for new customers. is it true? or are these guys bluffing around.

    47. thinkdj says:

      hi murali,
It means you’d get a minimum of 256kbps upto a max of 2mbps (where technically feasible).
E.g: If your house is more than 4-5 kms from the telephone exchange, you may not get the full 2mbps. But they see to it that you get th minimum of 256kbps.

    48. Murali says:

What is “256Kbps / Up to 2 Mbps”? Does it mean we can choose the bandwidth offered within in this range?

    49. thinkdj says:

login to http://data.bsnl.in/wps/portal with your user ID and P/w
      Goto My Services
and “View usage details” on the left and select your plan ..
I think they’re having some problems with the data usage management.. it doesn’t work now.

    50. chaitu says:

      hello sir….

hw to find the bandwidth usage of 500c plan..plzzz gv me the details…
