rohit, you need more ram if you want it to run smooth, but definitely will run, just check you free space on hard drive and defragment it and I recommend you to buy more ram... Im running the game in my laptop:

DELL Vostro 1500
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
2GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 256MB

it runs Smoothly at 800x600 (widescreen stretch) everything at high, shadows on, Glow on, AA 2x.

Yeah...You should be fine, fast process and good gfx card...but also take into note with that gfx card you needa fairly big screen so don't play on a 17inch with that or you won't get the full potential of the card.

actually a 17inch screen, or a 19 inch would be fine. I was just saying that you wouldn't be able to play on the more graphically intense higher resolutions.

Matt, your video card, unfortunately will not run with 25fps or more. To get 25fps or better, try to get an Geforce series 8: 8600, or 8800

the computer has a beast processor raven. Are you on vista or XP? on vista you need like at least 2/3 gigs to run smoothly. Might need to upgrade the GFX card to a 7900 or around there if you are cheap or an 8800 series if you are serious.

for all those wishing to see if the game will run:

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

it installs a plugin that scans comp for system requirements, and will tell you if you pass minimum and advanced requirements. it has many games.

Yeah, it will run better with more RAM, I don't think increasing the amount of RAM ever decreases performance. More RAM just means that your computer has more memory it needs for tasks that sometimes need a little boosting. Your computer will run smoother and will not freeze up, unless another hardware problem is amiss. With XP, you should be fine with 2gigs of RAM. Take note, most gaming desktops have around 3 gigs of RAM for maximum performance.

Why is this game freezing and glitching? I downloaded up to date GX2 drivers, Soundblaster Extreme Gamer sound card drivers, updated VISTA, and now waiting for the CoD4 patch to download.

Do th ebugs include screen freezing? Computer needing to reboot? THis is crazy. I hope it isn't my computer.

Right listen all of you before you post a comment.
If you are unsure about if your computer can run COD4 and you do not know what the hell the requirements are or whether you have them go to this website - www.srtest.com
To run the game smoothly I advise 1-2gb of RAM, and a late 7000 Geforce, or early 8000. As for radeons, I advise one of the new X series.
If you have any problems running COD4, post a comment, or email the technical advisers on the tech support page, I will try to be as helpful as possible.
If you do post a comment, please be descriptive, give your system specs (if you do not know how to find out, go to "Run" then type in "dxdiag" and you can find your system there) and also if it crashes - where it crashes? did you manage to get to the title screen? Does the opening video play? Does it not make it to any screen and just CTD (Crash To Desktop)

Thank you and I look forward to your commments

Thanks CAKE. I ran the system check on teh CoD4 "Recommended Website" Can it run, and it came back PASS ALL and recommended was PASS ALL. I did the run> dxdiag and my system should be fine.

I am sitting here at idle, only surfing the internet checking mail etc NO VIDEOS, NO MUSIC and my video card is 75c right now. I think this is too hot for idle speeds. EVGA Precision utility tool, fan is on auto and is reading 57 at the present.

I just over-rode the AUTO fan setting of 57 and set it to 100. Let's see how low it drops..... 8:42 am.

8:47 temps dropped to 65c.

I still think this is too warm or too hot for idle speeds without a load.

Ok - Another test was done. Ran computer at idle, no programs running. 72c. GX2 Fan set on AUTO.

Removed the side panel to allow more air flow and it only dropped to 70c.

Placed a 12" fan directly in front of the GX2, about 8 inches away from case, set GX2 Fan to 100. Temp dropped from 72c to a cool 55c.

Is this what I must do to keep this damn card cool?

So, I guess to keep this card cool I must Remove my side panel, turn GX2 fan to 100, and use a floor fan to blow cool air over the video card? I DON'T THINK SO!!! This is UNSAT performance and efficiency in a video card.

Are there any other reasons why this card is getting so hot?

It may be that the card is so powerful that in order to run it needs lots of power, meaning the temperature will climb dramatically. The option I can think of is to invest in some cooling for your card itself, I'll have a search of the internet myself on your problem.
Just one thing to do check your card is firmly in the slot, you can never be too careful, I'll get back to you about the search of the web.

If anyone else needs help just post your message, I am monitaring these postings.

Thankyou for your time

CAKE,

I appreciate your time and interest to help me out. I am sure what we discover will help others isolate the problem as well. The last resort is to ship the computer back to the point of origin for relook. This is my 3rd computer from them, so I don't think it is junk.

I did another test, CoD4, GX2 Fan at 100, and learned how to set the EVGA Precision Utility on my screen while I played so I can monitor what the temps were.

Side Panel Off it held steady between 84c and 87c under load while playing CoD4.

Side Panel put back on:

FPS fluctuated from 70 to 150 but my computer froze up at

GPU 1 94c
GPU 2 96c

So I am thinking that, the heated air inside can not escape or keep the video card cool enough. But elsewhere, I am reading that users are having temps in the 70c range.

What could make the video card overheat? How do I ensure the proper seating?

I pushed it IN and seated it to the rear, it seems ok.... But I don't know what I am trying to make certain of.

Right now, internet surfing, Side Panel is ON, and I am idling at 64c with GX2 Fan set at 100.

I just put GX2 fan back to AUTO and it dropped from 100 to 45. Lets see how high it climbs in just 5 minutes..... Time now is 11:32.

11:37, temps are now reading 76c with the AUTO fan speed. AUTO fan speed is reading 58.

FAN set back to 100, let's see what it reads in 5 minutes. Should be 64c again.

11:42, temps are now reading 67c with GX2 fan speed set back to 100.

I will now remove the side panel for better air flow. Let's see if the 67c drops lower.....

11:47, the 67c dropped to 61c with FAN SPEED set to 100 and the side panel removed for better air flow.

This completes my test. Time to eat my lunch.....

In response to Stammers, please send graphics cards details, to find out whether or not you can run the game. Try www.canyourunit.com to check

My advice is that your CPU is borderline and may only just run the game itself, try downloading and playing the demo, to see if that works

In response to New Player, I have not had chance to surf the web on your problem yet, but can I just ask is COD4 actually runnning on your PC or is it crashing etc. I appreciate the amount of detail you've inputted, and I will try to assist in anyway possible

Again if anyone needs help post your comment and I will get back to you - but please do the common sense tasks:
check your computers requirements against the games (located at top) if your unsure of how to do this or what your computer has go to www.canyourunit.com to find out

Thank you for yoru time

CAKE: Call of Duty 4 is up and running and Congratulations to me, that I just finished the game today. However, it was all along with crashes, freezes, etc. It would run perfectly until the GX2 video card heats up to approximately 90c. Usually, thats in about 30 minutes to an hour. Depending. Then it would strat to glitch, then freeze and need a reboot.

I guess my biggest idea is, the video card itself is getting way too hot. I just got back from Best Buy, and the GEEK SQUAD said to check to see if it was OverClocked. Here are my settings:

Core Clock 600
Shader Clock 1500
Memory Clock 1000

Is this normal for my EVGA GX2?

I tapped it back some to 550, 1375, 950 to see if that helps a heat issue.

The only thing I can think of, it is a heat related issue with the video card not getting enough cool air over it or the inability to cool off fast enough.

ALL - if you want to know if your individual system can play Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Stalker, or any other game, please check this link:

www.canyourunit.com

It has a drop down menu where you select the game you are intereste din, and it will run a 1 minute system check on your computer set up to determine how well it will play. It is fast, simple, and FREE!

Crysis will run great on my set up. Took me one minute to get the results.

YOU MUST BE ON THE SYSTEM YOU WILL BE GAMING ON AND WANT TO HAVE CHECKED.

@Smokey Way: in your specs, you do not mention a GPU, Graphics Processing Unit, other than that it appears that your system is capable of handling CoD4. if you're graphics card is anything above what is mentioned in the Min system requirements or better yet recommended system requirement then your problem could be with the drivers for your graphics card. find out what Graphics Card you have by going into "System Properties", you can do this by right when you're inside "My Computer" and choosing "Properties". if you do not have a GPU (graphics card) then you definitely need to buy one, or you're fu**ed.
my system can hanlde CoD4 fine:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz, 1333 Front Side Bus (FSB).
PNY RAM 4Gb running at 800Mhz FSB.
PNY 8600GT 512Mb GPU running at 460MHz.
Windows XP SP2
Seagate Barracuda 1Tb (Tera Byte) HDD, with 665Gb of space.

i'm afraid you're system won't handle it at all amemyarz, your GPU is far too weak, the minimum specs is asking for a nVidia GeForce 7800 or above, and that has 512MB of memory, and also its RAMDAC clock runs at 400MHz, which is more than your On Board GPU will be, you might want to give it a go still though, you can download a demo (free), which may be quite large, but it will prove either way whether your system will handle it or not, but i'm fairly certain that CoD4 is too much for your system.

hmmm, i'm not sure, because you have a laptop, and i'm not particularly sure about laptop graphics, obviously they have to be smaller, and lower power than normal graphics, but from what i know, i should imagine that you can only really run this game on a gaming laptop, that has been designed to do exactly that, gaming. but I'll look into Laptop graphics for you.
i may not know too much about laptop graphics, but i certainly know the problem with restricted space, due to the fact that i have a SFF (Small Form Factor) computer, which obviously has limited space, as it is there is only about 1MM between my GPU's fan/heat sink and my computers case side.
the main problem with laptop graphics, is that if they're soldered on to the mobo (mother board) then you're fucked, but if its a plug, like on a normal desktop PC with an SLI socket, then you could probably buy one and sort it out.

@amemyarz: Well, from what I've read about Dell Inspiron 1150's they're fairly unreliable, prone to overheating, and some have problems with their WiFi systems, and with only 64Mb's of Graphics memory, i don't think it will have a plug type SLI socket, more likely an integrated card/chip that cannot be replaced, so unfortunately, despite its fairly good CPU speeds and ranges it doesn't appear to be able to handle CoD4, i should think it'd even struggle with CoD2, but i'm not sure about that, because my old computer could handle that, and that only had a 1.66 GHz CPU.

If you happen to be thinking about buying a new laptop, i could advise you on buying one that could handle this game, but as gaming laptops are fairly pricey, i should think that buying a possibly cheap, but well considered and well put together Desktop, would be more in order.
I hope I've been helpful, and as I've said before, i'm not much of an expert on laptop graphics, so feel free to discount what I've said and seek advice elsewhere.

@Help: Well, it appears you have an ok-ish HDD, although could be quite a bit better and as HDD are as cheap as mud, you might consider buying a nice beefy 250GB HDD, i would suggest Seagate.
Your RAM is fine, especially because it is OCZ, when it comes to RAM, the label really DOES mean something, unlike with many other components. 1Gb is fine for running this game, as it is double the minimum specs required.

However, a problem emerges when it comes to your CPU, the minimum specs is asking for a 1.8GHz CPU, and although yours is a Dual Core CPU, which will level this out slightly, your CPU is still lacking a bit, you might want to consider overclocking it, but be advised that this is done at your own peril, and can damage your CPU or Motherboard, which... well, sucks.
Also, your Graphics Card is heavily lacking, when it comes to the close ones to call on whether they can handle any modern game like CoD4, it often comes down to whether the graphics card can handle it, and I'm sorry to say, that yours is far too weak.
If you were to buy an nVidia 8600GT, or an ATI HD 3850 or above. You can get an PNY 8600GT from about 30GBP (57USD), and a Saphire HD 3850 costs about 105GBP (200USD) and although this is really quite expensive, you do get what you pay for. Both of these graphics cards use PCI-Express, and your computer may not have that, so you can get an AGP HD 3850 80GBP (152USD). I have found a nice cheap PCI-Express HD 3850 for 90GBP (172USD).
I hope i have helped, and please don't take what I've said at face value, if you go to various computer forums, most have a area dedicated to this type of thing.

A GB is a gigabyte, and a MB is a mega-byte. A megabyte is made up of kilobytes or KB. There are 1024 megabytes to a gigabyte.
Shader Support is a term given to a a Graphics Card with DirectX 9.0 or better, for example an nVidia GeForce 7800.
As i explained slightly above, nVidia GeForce 7800 is a Graphics Card. There are many other Graphics Cards about, and cards that are of this level or above can handle Call of Duty 4. There are two Graphics Card designers, ATI and nVidia, you will find that older nVidia cards are better, but the new ATI HD 3850 and above are better than there nVidia counter-parts, in my opinion anyway.
The best way to find out whether your computer is able to handle the game is to open My Computer, right click and choose preferences, but not on any of the icons, just inside the window choose Properties, and there should be some general information about your computer. If you have Windows XP Pro, it'll have information about your CPU and RAM (Central Processing Unit, and Random Access Memory).
Inside the System Properties panel, (the thing you just opened), at the top there are tabs, choose Hardware, and then Device Manager. This will open the Device Manager, it will have options on what to look at, choose Display Adapters, if you do not have this tab, you do not have a Graphics Card. If you do, this should show what Graphics Card you have, for example, mine is currently showing nVidia GeForce 8600GT.
In the minimum system requirements, it is asking for a 1.8 GHz CPU, and 512 MB of RAM, this is fairly easy for most computers to step up to, its the graphics card that causes most problems for people, as they're quite expensive at times, and often what was once a very good graphics card can turn into something fairly, mediocre. This is because the industry changes very quickly, for example for some time nVidia have dominated the industry, rightly so in many ways because their graphics cards were fast, and well made, but now it appears that ATI have become more dominant, with the release of their popular HD 3850/3870 and the even more recent HD 4850/4870, which are MUCH better than the nVidia graphics cards, and they're also cheaper.
I hope i have helped, please do not take what i have said as fact, although i try to be as accurate as possible when helping people, i'm sure if you were to have a look around on the internet, you'd find plenty of Forums which can help you learn more.

Will this game run with this graphics card:

512MB AGP 6200

I'm sorry, I don't know much about PC's. I just have to make sure because I don't want to buy this game in vain.

If it doesn't work, can someone recomend something better at around the same price. (I'm being offered this for $60) Thanks!

@Daniel: I'm sorry to say that the nVidia GeForce 6200 will not be able to run this game, and definitely not at any decent kind of frame rate, you'd have to get some with a little bit more power. I'm not certain why, but older nVidia cards often cost quite a lot of money for the power/quality that you get from them, as a lot of them don't provide the newer and more complicated shader systems and all that technological mumbo jumbo.
From the way that i am reading your comment, you have no actually bought the GeForce 6200 yet, and that you want something of the same price tag of around $60. Unfortunately, i cannot find many cards for that price tag, there is one card that i would highly recommend though, and that is the PNY GeForce 8600GT (512Mb). And you can pick one of those up for about about $75, which is not too much more than you're being asked for, and i can vouch for this Graphics Card, because i have it, so i know it can handle this game fine.
But, and this is quite a big but, if the other parts of your system are REALLY good, for example:
CPU: Dual Core, 3.0GHz (1333Mhz Front Side Bus, FSB)
RAM: DDR2 RAM, 2-4Gb running at 800Mhz FSB.
Then the game may run on your computer without too many problems, however, I'm not too sure about this as with graphics cards its not just the power and quality, but what they are DESIGNED to do, newer graphics cards have shader support and the like, and i don't think a 6200 has that.
As always, don't take what i say as fact, you're welcome to look on other forums (and there are many) that discuss this type of thing, i hope i have helped.

@191john191:
Yes, you have a point that a decent computer that can run these sorts of games can cost quite a lot more than a PS3, which is $500, not $400, and thats only the basic version, the more popular and better full version of the PS3 costs about $600.
My main problem with most of what you said is this, you pay a lot of money for a Blu-Ray drive, which i think most people are rarely interested in, secondly PC's have a massive advantage over PS3's on the numbers of games that they can play, for example, you can have CoD 1, 2 and 4 (unfortunately Call of Duty 3 was never released for the PC... GRR!) and then there are all the massive numbers of RTS and Turn Based Strategy games about, which are a lot better on PC's for various reasons.
Also, you can do a lot more on a PC than you can on a PS3, you can surf the web, you can manage Video Files, you can play video and audio media with great ease, and unless you have a computer that you use solely for gaming, which will only be true for people with a large and fairly stable bank balance (in which case they'd have a PS3 an Xbox 360 and a Wii as well) then most people have to choose what they get in terms of computer very wisely.
And finally, a computer that can handle this type of game, and many others does NOT cost upwards of $1000, so don't say that it does, you can put together a system easily capable of playing this game and others for about $570, which is less than the full version PS3, and although this system will not be able to play it at the level of prettiness that perhaps the PS3 can, if you spend an extra $40/60 then you will have a seriously good machine.
Computers, in my opinion, will ALWAYS be better than consoles, because although Consoles are very nice to have, and there are some amazing games that are best played on consoles (Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 for example) are around, it is not only gaming that computers are used for.

@sam:
You computer might be able to handle CoD4. It looks like it'll be fine on the side of the RAM, HDD and CPU, but there (as there usually is) may be a problem with your Graphics module, as the ATi Radeon 3200, because it is a 'mobility' GPU, which means it shares the RAM that the rest of the computer is using.
This probably won't be a problem, as it has a fairly quick Clock Speed, and you have plenty of RAM to share about a bit, but you probably won't get to play CoD4 on high Resolutions or massively high FPS, but it should be fine.

@jake:
You may as well be using an Amiga 1200, if you're being serious, i'm sorry but this game will never work on your computer.
If you're joking, i feel sorry that you feel you have to go on to a site like this and type such fatuous bull-crap, grow up and don't waste other peoples time.

You may as well be using an Amiga 1200, if you’re being serious, i’m sorry but this game will never work on your computer.
If you’re joking, i feel sorry that you feel you have to go on to a site like this and type such fatuous bull-crap, grow up and don’t waste other peoples time.

@JasonXtK:
You might be ok, but the problem is that it doesn't matter whether you play online or not, it takes just as much power to play online as playing normally.
The main problem with your system is, as you've noticed, your graphics card, I don't think your system will be able to run the game. The 5800GT is just not powerful enough, if you were to upgrade to something like an nVidia 8600GT you'd be fine, and as you can pick one of those up for about $70.

@gundog48: well, it depends on the rest of your system, if have a lot of RAM, say 4Gb, and a decent graphics card, for example an nVidia 8800GT or above, or an ATi HD 3850 or above, then you should be fine. But, judging as most computers running hardware like i listed above will have a much more powerful Dual core CPU, or even a Quad core CPU, i doubt you have the hardware i listed, so i don't think you will be able to play the game. Reply on here with a complete list of your hardware, and I'll be able to tell you for sure. Please get back to me gundog, and also don't just take what i have said as read, it is entirely possible that i am wrong, but i don't think i am.
@Srijan: 1. If you're being serious, and you really don't know, then... YES you computer will run CoD4, you're computer can probably run most games actually, including games such as Crysis. 2. If you're not being serious and you're just using this site to show off how powerful your computer is, then you've got some serious inferiority complexes and you should meet a therapist, or, and this is a personal favourite of mine, you just f***ing grow up and stop spamming web sites.

@torox: I'm going to say the same thing i said to Srijan, if you're not joking, then you're computer will be fine playing CoD4, with a pretty decent CPU, good RAM and a very good graphics card. Despite your CPU being a little bit weedy, i mean a 2.0GHz CPU isn't that impressive is it?
If you are joking, then grow the hell up, you silly, immature child. Bragging about your computer is not cool, or clever, especially if all you have is a 2.0GHz CPU, which is just stupid if you have a 9800GT and 4Gb of RAM, get a 45nm 3.0GHz Quad core if you have money, they're brutal.

@aki: Your computer probably won't be able to run this game. There are several problems, firstly your CPU is a single Core cpu, this means that it cannot handle as much data at once (sometimes called 'multi-tasking'), because it will be using a lot of its power to run your Operating System, add to that the running of the game, and you have a problem. Secondly, your Graphics Card isn't powerful enough, and not just that, it also lacks certain capabilities that newer graphics cards have, and lastly you RAM, although there is enough to run the game if you had a better graphics card and CPU, if you had quite a bit more (4Gb for example) it might make enough difference for you to be able to run the game, and as RAM is pretty cheap, you could quite easily upgrade.
A System that will run CoD4 Smoothly:
CPU: Intel E6850 (3.0GHz)
RAM: PNY DDR2 RAM (4Gb)
GPU: nVidia GeForce 8600GT (430MHz Core Clock , 512Mb RAM)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda (1Tb).

@Ferd: Well, that would depend more on your motherboard. However, if you were to get an 8600GT, I'd suggest buying some more RAM as well, as its dirt cheap at the moment.
The type of RAM you buy also depends on your motherboard, it is very important to find out how new your mobo (motherboard), if it does not support PCI-E (PCI-Express) then you will not be able to install the 8600GT, and if it doe
