Just days after MySpace made a similar move, Facebook on Tuesday said it was removing a Project Playlist application from the facebook.com

This move came a day after the California-based Project Playist announced its biggest plan yet: An agreement with Sony BMG to make its library of digital music available to users of playlist.

Project Playlist, which allows users to upload music and create and share play lists, is being sued by the RIAA and three other major music labels for copyright violations.

In a statement obtained by several technology blogs, Facebook said the RIAA “initially contacted Facebook last summer requesting the removal of the Project Playlist application for copyright violation, and recently reopened those communications.

“We have forwarded RIAA’s letters to Project Playlist so it can work directly with that organization and music labels on a resolution,” Facebook said. “In the meantime, the application must be removed to comply with the Facebook Platform Terms of Service” facebook added.

Project Playlist now has a userbase of more than 40 million according to comScore research.

Facebook has shut down a Jihadist group, after it received an alert that the group was using the site to spread its radical message.

The group called the Fursan Ghazawat Alnusra (Arabic for “Knights in Support of the Invasion”), was blocked on December 18. At the time of being banned, it was 120 members strong.

The group’s motto or teaching to its members was to wage “Jihad to aid the religion of Allah and his Prophet.”

The discovery of the existence of the group was made by FoxNews (online), which after working closely with a former radical Muslim, who is presently dedicated to exposing cyber terror activity, gained access to the group and its content.

The group had mentioned on the group that its purpose was “to support Jihad and Mujihadeen”, and that it started the Facebook group “to invade this Web site” and to ask “Allah to grant us Jihad and martyrdom.”.. “Today we invade your sites, tomorrow your lands and homes, o you cross worshipers” it added.

Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said that the group had been disabled, and that the company was investigating the group owners’ friends.

He said that Facebook had also taken steps to increase monitoring for content supporting terrorism, but he said such actions were difficult with a userbase of over 140 million.

Aug 9, 2008 : Facebook Inc has blocked a virus that infected thousands of users’ accounts by presenting itself as a video message. The messages advertised links to videos on Google Video or YouTube sites and those who clicked on the links actually downloaded malicious software.

Users who unknowingly downloaded the virus via the video link were presented with an image of a court jester sticking his tongue out and rolling his eyes.

Although the virus affected less than 0.002 percent of Facebook population, based on its more than 120 million subscribers, that would amount to more than 2,000 people. Facebook disabled access to the links as soon as the information was obtained.

Discussion at Facebook

you’ll receive an e-mail from a friend that claims you’ve been caught on a hidden camera. The message sure looks legitimate, but take note – it isn’t!

It includes a link that leads to a site that looks like YouTube. But if you look carefully, you’ll realize it’s actually a fake YouTube site.

When you click the video to begin, a message pops up and says you first need to download a newer Flash player to play the video.. When the user downloads the so called ‘flash update’.. it is the trojan

More details about the trojan @ SYNC
