  • RIAA’s major shift in paradigm

RIAARIAA will stop suing people, block their net instead. The RIAA will work with major ISPs to put an end to the abusers’ net connections.
This announcement came after a controversial five-year legal campaign in which the RIAA sued over 30,000 accused file sharers. These lawsuits quickly turned into a public relations disaster as grandmothers and single mothers got dragged into court based on sometimes spurious evidence.

Under the new paradigm, RIAA will send notices to ISPs that identify the IP addresses of suspected file sharers. ISPs will then send warnings to their customers and then cut them off if the users fail to curb their illegal downloads/uploads.  The suspension of the suspect from the network could last anywhere from three months to upto a year.
